Social Story
Social stories have been used by many families, teachers, and therapists to help teach children how to cope with new situations. Social stories can also help a child learn specific social skills, how to regulate behavior, and what to expect out of unfamiliar situations. PTS, Inc. has developed a social story to help children and their families understand what to expect at their evaluation. Take a moment and read our pediatric therapy services with your child before coming to visit us.
I am going to Mankato Clinic Pediatric Therapy Services to have an evaluation. First, we check in. Then my family and I sit in the lobby where I can play with toys or read books until it is time for my appointment. A therapist will come to get me and my family. I may see a speech, physical and/or occupational therapist. My family, the therapist and I all go back to a room together. In the room, I get to play for a little while so my family and the therapists can talk. I will also get a turn to talk and play with the therapist. Sometimes we stay in the same room and sometimes we go to another room. After talking and playing with the therapist, you and your child will discuss the visit with the therapist and your child will receive a prize for being such a hard worker. As you leave, you will stop at the front desk to schedule the next visit.
