Colleen Vitzthum, Pediatric Audiologist and Dr. Susan Pearson, Pediatric ENT Physician

MANKATO (January 21, 2025) The Mankato Clinic Hearing Care Center and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department are offering free children’s hearing screenings from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 23 at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota.

Children and families are invited to play at the Children’s Museum and learn about the amazing ear, hearing, and how healthcare providers examine ears.

Colleen M. Vitzthum, AU.D., CCC-A, F-AAA, is a board-certified audiologist specializing in pediatric audiology. She will conduct a test called tympanometry, which examines the movement of the eardrums and checks for fluid in the ears. Dr. Susan Pearson, pediatric ENT physician, will be on hand to discuss ear infections and answer questions.

According to the National Institutes of Health, five out of six children will have their first ear infection before their third birthday.

“Ear infections are the most common reason parents bring their children to a doctor. We want to show children how we check their ears and increase their comfort level with health care visits. We also want to answer questions from parents and caregivers about ear infections,” Dr. Pearson says.
