J. Scott Sanders MD Memorial Scholarship Application Deadline Is March 5

The March 5 deadline is fast approaching for area high school seniors to get their applications in for the $2,000 J. Scott Sanders M.D. Memorial Scholarship.

In May 2006, the Mankato Clinic lost J. Scott Sanders, one of its most beloved physicians, pulmonologists and critical care specialists after a courageous battle with cancer. In memoriam, the Mankato Clinic Foundation has developed the J. Scott Sanders M.D. Memorial scholarship for high school seniors. Dr. Sanders’ character was renowned in all aspects of his life, which resulted in an unforgettable and life-long impact on others.

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must write about how character has been important in achieving their accomplishments to date, how it will be a key cornerstone of their future and how they recognize character in others.

To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must be a high school senior and reside within the Mankato Clinic service area, which includes Mankato, North Mankato, St. Peter, Lake Crystal, Mapleton and nearby communities. In addition, the applicant must plan to obtain a secondary education following high school graduation. One $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually.

Past winners are: Lauren Kurtz (2008), Mitchell Thune (2009), Callie Jones (2010), Jamie Schlarbaum (2011), Charisse Miller (2012), Medora Dungan (2013), Madelyn Hertaus (2014), Benjamin Broze (2015), Madalyn Ottmar (2016) and Benjamin Abbott (2017).

Applications are due Monday, March 5.
