Mankato Clinic offers free child safety seat classes

Spending two hours with a Mankato Clinic certified car seat safety technician could save your child’s life.  Knowing that three out of four child seats aren’t properly installed, the technician will be sharing her knowledge on Minnesota laws that require children under eight to be in a child safety seat.

Thanks to funding from the Mankato Clinic Foundation, the clinic will once again be offering car seat safety classes free of charge beginning March 12. During the class, attendees will learn proper child safety seat installation tips, how to select the correct seat and how to properly restrain a child in the seat. The Mankato Clinic car seat safety class is open to all parents and grandparents who transport children from birth to 18 in their vehicles. This class isn’t for certified child care providers.

Classes are held in the conference room on the lower level of the Children’s Health Center Campus, 7-9 p.m., on select Thursday evenings. The car seat safety class will be hosted March 12, April 9, June 11, July 16, Aug. 13, Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10. Participants should bring their car seat installed in their vehicle to class. After class, participants will be given the option to have the car seat checked for proper installation.
